my '/var/log/messages' is rife with repetitions of this line:
localhost /etc/gdm/Xsession[400]: (nautilus:1482): GVFS-WARNING **: meta_journal_iterate: found short sized entry, possible journal corruption
can someone help me to figure out what is wrong and fix it?

Everytime I start evince I get the same error
GVFS-WARNING **: meta_journal_iterate: found short sized entry, possible journal corruption
Don't have the nautilus errors though.
This is very annoying since I use LaTex from console and get dozens of these error messages whenever I view my pdf. I tried updating to evince 3.8.2 but nothing changed. This only started recently, but I can't figure out which package is responsible.

I can't figure out which package is responsible.
No? I'd guess gvfs.

Sorry, yes. I didn't see it when I first skipped through the logs, but it seems to be the gvfs 1.16.1-1 -> 1.16.1-2 upgrade.

Same here... evince crashes randomly when reading pdfs

The same problem here every time I start evince, it says:
(evince:2342): GVFS-WARNING **: meta_journal_iterate: found short sized entry, possible journal corruption

Had the same problem. For me deleting all the files in ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata/ solved the issue.

For me too. Thanks!

thank you
rm -rf $HOME/.local/gvfs-metadata
worked for me too

Are you sure? After deleting gvfs-metadata I still experience the problem, same warnings spamming console output if I launch evince from a terminal. Is it a bug? Has it been reported?
Offline
I'm sure about log messages, not about the bug

Just just tried the removal of the meta data and still get these messages from evince.

The files were probably still open by gdbus/gvfsd/your file manager. They were gone after restarting X, but the files weren't being recreated until after rebooting (I didn't bother much to find out what else needed to be restarted).

Did all this. Removed files from single user mode, rebooted system into graphical and errors are still there.
