[Solved] problem on reboot...

Went to update some core packages..  and had some issues with installation, couldn't find directories had to do a pacman -Qo on /bin, /usr/, /sbin, and /usr/sbin.

Went to reboot, thinking it would maybe need a reboot, and now cannot get slim to start, the command line login won't let me login as root or as a user.  it says  systemd-udevd: specified group 'plugdev' unknown...

[then it goes and says:]  systemd-udevd: failed to execute '/usr/share/virtualbox/VBoxCreateUSBNode.sh' '/usr/share/virtualbox/VBoxCreateUSBNode.sh' 189 258 e0 vboxusers': no such file or directory

[and continues with]  systemd-udevd: failed to execute '/usr/lib/udev/lmt-udev/ lmt-udev force modules=usb-autosuspend devices=301.3' : no such file or directory

[...same thing with different devices]  lmt-udev force ... device=3-1.3:1.2, devices=3-1.3:1.3, devices=3-1.3:1.0, devices=3-1.3:1.1... no such file or directory

lmt-udev auto' no such file or directory  [then again saying more lmt-udev stuff]  devices=3-1.4, devices=3-1.4:1.1, devices=3-1.4:1.0  ... no such file or directory   [then again with]   'lmt-udevd auto' : no such file or directory

it then does the normal disk check with systemd-fsck and cleans some partitions and then prompts for login...  i try to login and it won't say anything, but refresh to a cleared screen and login... same with either root login or user login... also if i put in wrong username or wrong password recognizes that still...  so i don't know what else to do besides trying to chroot in through a live usb and trying to fix it after mounting...

i did find this bug from redhat with a similar problem:   https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=85924
maybe something similar   https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=108244

Re: [Solved] problem on reboot...

What *exactly* did you do on the upgrade? Did you read the front page news?

You didn't answer my question. What *exactly* did you do?

Again, read the front page.

Re: [Solved] problem on reboot...

nnnnomg I totally forgot to see the front page...    https://www.archlinux.org/news/binaries … ervention/

did now... does that count  O___o

I guess I will boot off of a live usb and then chroot in and fix the binaries and then upgrade and reboot....

**EDIT**

Okay so I have fixed my problem completely.  Pretty much Arch got rid of /sbin /usr/sbin /bin and made it just /usr/bin... and /usr/lib..., and once I queried and got rid of the files in there and then went through and updated my stuff everything went back to normal.  Thank you for your help in responding to my problem!  8 )
