The dictd-gcide package seems to be broken. I'm curious as to why a database like this needs to be converted to the DICT format by every user. Is there nowhere that a converted database is or could be stored so that an install could consist of simply downloading the database and putting it in the right place?

Anyway, I, for one, would appreciate it if someone could fix the package. I have a very slow and flakey internet connection and miss being able to get quick definitions.

You should consider:
1) Posting this to the AUR page for that package.
2) Emailing the maintainer with an example error log from makepkg so he/she can fix it.

Someone already posted the error log on the package page about 3 weeks ago. None of the 3 dictionaries I tried to install from AUR worked. The other 2 are orphaned. That's what made me wonder if there was a better way. These should be simple databases and easy to install, but all the packages look like they take the raw data, compile a conversion program, and convert the data to DICT format. Why couldn't the package be an already converted database? I assume there's a reason and wondered if anyone knew why.

I've copied the dictionaries from an old Debian computer so my problem is more or less solved since dictionaries don't change much. I was hoping we could come up with a way to make this available to others.

I took a quick look at it but those errors don't mean much to me. I am guessing it is due out our gcc version vs. the one debian stable uses. Someone more knowledgeable will need to comment.
