Chromium fails to play some MP3 files. They appear to buffer and play but there is no sound. Here is an example:
http://bostonzen.org/wp-content/uploads … -09-22.mp3 does not play
http://bostonzen.org/wp-content/uploads … Spiral.mp3 plays fine.
Both files play fine in Firefox and Google Chrome. Is there a way to add missing codecs to chromium or should I use the google-chrome package from AUR?

Are you sure is not a pulseaudio issue?
Firefox and chrome use the same plugins than chromium, also I use chromium and I din't have any problem opening.
Besides, it buffers and "play" but maybe is a sound issue

I do not have pulseaudio installed. If this is a sound issue how would some mp3 files work but not others? I have tried the same files many times and the results are perfectly consistent.
I have now installed google-chrome package from AUR which works fine, but I would rather stick with chromium.

Do you have all the codecs installed?
I think chromium uses gstreamer, this is weird

Yes, I have gstreamer good, bad, ugly, ffmpeg and all the plugins.
I decided to try installing pulseaudio. It turns out you were in fact correct all my mp3 files now play correctly. Very strange! thanks for your help axelectrik.

Both of the files above work for me with chromium from the repos (which doesn't use gstreamer for anything by the way) and dwb using gstreamer.
