I've started a new thread for this as the problem is somewhat different from the one described here: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=16749
Since doing a major system upgrade in mid-November, I've been unable to login to the Arch forums - or certain other forums - from my ordinary user account in Arch. It doesn't matter what browser I use; after entering my user name and password I just get returned to the forum login screen.
I haven't changed the cookies settings and they are set up to accept cookies from this site.
I can login to the forums without difficulty from any other computer or operating system. I can also login from this computer as root, which is what I am doing now in order to be able to post. I am baffled by this and wonder if anybody has any ideas?

You probably know it, but you should not go on internet as a root user.
About your question, does this also happen with a fresh user?

Created a new user, which works OK. I would really like to find out what has gone wrong in my original user account though.

I can't log in here with konqueror, but firefox is OK. I put in my data and hit login, somehow it is accepted and I'm taken to the forums but above it stills says Log In without [username] and when I want to post I get the login mask again but then my login is refused.

Backup ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror, remove the original dir, and try if that fixes the problem?

does not help. I even tried to del konquerorrc

Do you have cookies enabled?

This is exactly what I am seeing. Now I don't feel so bad.

cookies are enabled. I even deleted the old cookie policy and created a new one for the domain.

I also narrowed my problem down to Konqueror (could have sworn that Firefox and Opera were similarly affected this morning!) and now I have managed to resolve it completely.
I found a Konqueror bug report http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115732
which suggested the solution is to delete the relevant cookies and this worked for me. The file to edit is /home/[user]/.kde/share/apps/kcookiejar/cookies
Search for and delete ALL instances of bbs.archlinux.org cookies - you must do this with Konqueror closed, so don't edit the file from within the Konqueror file manager. And it's no good just deleting the cookies using Konqueror's configuration menu. I found it easiest to boot into another OS on the same machine and access the file from there.
Hope this works for other people.

I just cleared all my cookies in konqueror - it works!

Dauphin;
Thanks much for the directive setting up the corrective action to get log-in working.
In my case, root was required which differs slightly and did permit solving the problem. Previous attempts to reach the cookie file did not recognize the need for "root" if root is the "tour de force".
Merry Christmas!!
Prediction...This year will be a very odd year!
