Asking the devs to provide such news items is hard to justify if users keep ignoring them.

Well, some of us rely on those messages and do pay attention. I had very little idea what I was doing when I started using Arch and still have little idea what I'm doing but I've gone through several of these upgrades without issue thanks to those messages (and sometimes a little further research if I don't understand them completely). So at least some users do appreciate them and do pay attention to them .
