Arch is nice!

Hi, after a while of using arch I have got more stuff working then I ever got with Debian smile.

With arch it's the first time I have streaming video in firefox and the ati drivers installed with tv out.

It's dead easy to install flash when needed.

It's so simple to upgrade.

What a nice distro.

It just could use more packages.

keep it going guys, thx

I don't know if you've noticed yet, but the "more packages" thing is up to you - well, up to all of us, as Arch users. Click on the AUR icon, and you'll see what I mean.

Re: Arch is nice!

Well posted Gunnix.
its nice to hear someone extolling the virtues of Arch, as its been a lean time for praise recently.

Similar Debian experience for me too.
i also like the little touches in Arch that make life easier, one that got me right away was the codecs package. prior to this i had to trawl around picking up bits and bobs for Xine where i could.

Updates and changes recently caused a few probs, but with the excellent pointers from community bods i found it reasonably easy to sort stuff out for myself.  Helps you to help yourself kinda thing.

Must admit a lot of the heavy dev/tech talk goes right over my head, but i still enjoy watching and learning and Arch has helped me pick up a better understanding of Linux more than any other distro i've tried.

Go Arch !

Re: Arch is nice!

Thanks Dusty - yep, I was trying to be helpful.

I heard all your positive things, gunnix, and agree with them - I just didn't feel the need to say so. I also don't consider "It just could use more packages" to be particularly negative. It just sounded like you might not have come across the AUR and ABS yet.

Hey, if it makes you feel any better:

Yeah! Nice one, gunnix! Arch rocks! Welcome to the best distro in the galaxy! big_smile  big_smile  big_smile  big_smile
