HP Printer install

Hello everyone,

I want to install HP laserjet m2727 mfp  printer, which is on wifi shared conection. I have hplip and hplip_plugins from aur, but the hp_setup throws me:

error: No PPD found for model laserjet_m2727_mfp using old algorithm.
error: Unable to find an appropriate PPD file.

Where can I download this PPD or other solution?

Thanks,

Re: HP Printer install

Have you tried just using CUPS?  I could never get those crazy hp printing tools to work right.  But CUPS is way easy (thanks apple).  To make it even super simpler, you can use system-config-printer as well.

Re: HP Printer install

The PPD files for this are present in the hplip package.

ls /usr/share/ppd/HP/*2727*
hp-laserjet_m2727_mfp-hpijs-pcl3.ppd.gz hp-laserjet_m2727_mfp-pcl3.ppd.gz hp-laserjet_m2727_mfp_series-ps.ppd.gz

Re: HP Printer install

Thank you all for the answers.

Using CUPS the printer don't respond, maybe I'm missing some parameter.

when I try to specify PPD file, as the ones cited for x33a, they all throw me:

error: Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again.

Some step I could be missing? This can't be so difficult!!!

Re: HP Printer install

Try running

# hp-check

Also ensure that you have avahi running along with cups.

Re: HP Printer install

Nop, still not working. hp-check throw me some errors that I managed (like adding user to lp group). Also throws "arch is not a authorized distro", I guess they should remove that message, it comes from official repo.

How can I check if avahi is running? (sorry, i'm still slow with the new systemctl)

Re: HP Printer install

"systemctl is-enabled <service>" and/or "systemctl is-active <service>" will check out a service's state.  I think those commands are pretty self-explanatory.

Re: HP Printer install

Check out the database at Open Printing (openprinting.org? it is on the wiki) and see what they advise for your printer.

I also would try to avoid the HP setup tools if possible. I found it easier to get hold of a different printer than to get those working when trying to set up my office printer.

Re: HP Printer install

Nope. The model is supposed to work, and hplip and hplip-plugin are the recommended  packages for this printer model, but the system seems not to be able to find a working version of the PPD

Re: HP Printer install

Does the database specify a PPD? Is that PPD installed?

The database just say that hplip should work. But the error that I posted in the first message suggest that the correct PPD cannot be found

Re: HP Printer install

How are you trying to set the printer up exactly?

You said above that trying to use CUPS failed. Did you do this through the web interface? Or on the command line? If the latter, try the web interface.

The database says that basic functionality works with the generic postscript driver. Have you tried that at all? Not that this is a good solution but it would be good to know that the printer works OK with that even if it provides minimal functionality.

When you say it can't find the PPD file, usually the web interface offers you a bunch of possibilities. If you are configuring this way and you are getting the error, does it let you choose the ppd but then spit the error or does the ppd not appear in the first place?
