after a recent update i am having a strange problem with pulse audio as far as i can tell it is starting up ok, pavucontrol is connecting and displaying all the hardware and streams however i am getting no sound from any application they show up in the list of playback streams but fail to show the moving level bar? underneath and some applications ie mplayer and mpd just freeze on starting playback but throw no errors to the console? any help would be much appreciated.

nether mind turned out to be a PEBKAC had edited my compiz-standalone script to start a diffrent x session to fix something else and forgot to change it back :rolleyes
