xfce and network response

When my network goes down (which it does often due to my dodgy router!), apps in xfce4 take ages to open. When network is up, apps open instantly. This only happens in xfce4, KDE works fine all the time.

I'm talking non-network apps here! Even opening a terminal will hang for 20-30 seconds when net is down.

Why is xfce dependant on network response, and how can I correct it please?

Cheers, Renners

Re: xfce and network response

I haven't had this particular problem, but it could be related to the second problem mentioned here. Edit /etc/hosts as suggested, and see if things improve.

Re: xfce and network response

Thanks! Adding my actual hostname to the end of the 127.0.0.1 line of /etc/hosts cured the problem!
