LBP5050n - maintenance works, printing immediately clears job

In my attempts to get a Canon LBP5050n network printer running on Arch with CUPS, I got as far that I can send maintenance commands like "colour calibration" and the printer will do that.
However, if I try to print anything, it will just clear the job a moment later and the printer will remain completely silent.
Als, CUPS offers 2 different ways to print a test page: Printing a test page and printing a self-test page, but both do not work either.

Any idea if I'm just missing a tiny little detail here? After all the printer seems to "work" already.
