[solved] really bad screen tearing

Hello,

I'm running an nvidia gtx 460 with the latest nvidia driver and I'm getting some pretty bad screen tearing when I'm moving movies in VLC. I'm using Awesome WM... thoughts/ideas?

Are you using compositing at all with awesome?  If not, it might help.  Have a look at this thread.  It fixed tearing issues for me.

My bad... I do that often.  I find the link, then copy it but never paste it.

hmmm ok last question please!!!! where do I put the compton line? I put it in .xinitrc

compton --backend glx --paint-on-overlay --vsync opengl-swc
[[ -f ~/.Xresources ]] && xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources
exec awesome

but after I login to slim it's just a light gray screen nothing seems to work :\

nevermind fixed it. I just needed to add an & to the end of the line. thanks again!

Glad you got it working.  TBH, I have just always put it in my window manager's startup file.  ATM I am an i3 user, so it would be an exec line in $HOME/.config/i3/config except I am using "systemd --user" so I actually have it running as its own service.
