Atheros AR9271 USB and kernel upgrade

Hi Friends,

My Atheros AR9271 USB wireless device just stopped working after a kernel upgrade (3.8.11-1 -> 3.9.2-1, x86_64). Besides the previously working netcfg setup, tried wifi-menu and wpa_supplicant. In all cases the kernel logs show

send auth to xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (try 1/3)
deauthenticating from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx by local choice (reason=3)

Downgrading the kernel and nvidia driver brings back the wireless, but them X goes berserk, complaining of all sort of missing libraries.

Any suggestions on how to debug/solve this?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Cantão.

Re: Atheros AR9271 USB and kernel upgrade

I had this problem too. But I didn't see a need to downgrade any video drivers as well. I just downgraded the linux kernel to 3.8.10 and the linux-headers to 3.8.10 as well. When I did this, the wireless works and no X berserking for me.

Re: Atheros AR9271 USB and kernel upgrade

projectdelphai: I have downgraded the video drivers because of nvidia dependencies (it required kernel >= 3.9).

Anyway, downgraded nvidia-libgl also and everything is working fine for now, given that I don't upgrade the system anymore neutral

Thank you. I'm  subscribed to this topic because I'm having the same problem, and I was planning to upgrade my system, but I think I'll wait a little more...

Still no luck with kernel 3.9.6.

I don't have time to try, but I think I read something about disabling power-saving features for the wifi card, or setting it to "power auto", I don't remember. Just in case someone wants to look into.

Re: Atheros AR9271 USB and kernel upgrade

I found something interesting with 3.9.5-1 though that I forgot to mention. Though I still can't connect at boot, I can connect to an open wireless signal and then a wep signal. However, since I want connection to a wep on boot, this didn't help me. Haven't tried 3.9.6 though, so thanks.

Re: Atheros AR9271 USB and kernel upgrade

I faced the same problem on 3 systems (all of them are connected to an AR9271 WLAN USB device) and just tried kernel 3.9.6 and it seems to work again. I hope this means it works for you as well.
