sound blaster recon3d no sound

hi,
my sound card doesn't make any sound and is not detected by the kernel as proven by :

lsmod | grep '^snd' | column -t

(It outputs nothing)

and

ls -l /dev/snd
total 0
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 1 Jun 21 18:41 seq
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 33 Jun 21 18:41 timer

I know I have to load a kernel module but I can't seem to be able to find it. It may not be surprising since I haven't been into linux for very long.

Re: sound blaster recon3d no sound

I have the same model on my Alienware m17xR4, and sometime, the card just disapear, living me with only the HDMI output.
In my case, it seems to be a hardware and/or bios problem, appearing most when system shut down not correctly (on Linux AND on Windows, but a lot more on Linux, even with a proper shutdown).

I usually reset the computer by removing the the battery, the energy cable and the CMOS battery, and everything come back to normal.

And indeed, this card is not listed in the ALSA pages.

Re: sound blaster recon3d no sound

I'll try that but I'm not sure it'll work. Even when my card was detected, it didn't work. I had un-muted it in alsa but no sound seemed to come out of it. sad

Re: sound blaster recon3d no sound

I have also a similar problem with mine: the microphone outputs is not well detected and sound stays on the laptop speakers most of the time. Only HDMI work perfectly.
This particular issue seems to be related to kernel 3.9, as I had no problem with 3.8.
I read (I don't remember where) that this issue is known, and should be corrected with kernel 3.10. As I don't have time to search more on this problem, I'm just waiting for the new kernel for the moment. If the problem persists, then I will try to digg more.

Re: sound blaster recon3d no sound

I really do hope that the new kernel release'll fix it. It's one of the only things holding me back from switching to arch completely wink
