unable to enumerate USB device

I have discovered a problem connecting my Boox ebook reader to my system. This has worked previously with no problems, plug the usb cable in, a message appears on the reader asking if I want to connect to a computer, the alternative is just to recharge, as soon as I click yes the reader used to be automounted and recognised by Calibre allowing me to update my reading list.

Now when I connect and conform the reader displays it's connected message but nothing seems to happen on the computer end.

lsusb lists all other connected devices and hubs

dmesg gives this

[ 147.108048] hub 6-1.4:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 3
[ 153.761034] hub 6-1.4:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 3

I have tried several different ports and cables with the same results.

As I only infrequently need to update the ebooks on the reader it has been about 6 months since I last used it with Arch so any update could of broken it.

I am not at all sure where to start diagnosing this.

Re: unable to enumerate USB device

The first step would to be sure `uname -a` and `pacman -Qi linux` give the same version number.

Re: unable to enumerate USB device

Does it work on another computer? When I have seen these in dmesg, it usually meant the usb drive was on its way out.

Re: unable to enumerate USB device

Yes on another Arch install it is immediately recognised, lsusb shows it but of course Calibre is not installed there nor can I access my library.
