new kernel problems error 17 cannot mount selected partition

I edited my boot/Grub/menu1st file to read

kernel (hd0) /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/hda3 ro
initrd /initrd26.img

But now I get the message error 17 cannot mount selected partition.

Please help.

Before I had root=(hda0) and kernel=(hda0,0) changing the former to (hda0,0) solved my problem.
