hey there,
i just did a fresh install of arch
following the wiki to get sound going for alsa, and i get to the part where it calls for doing alsaconf as root, and bam, it crashes. i start to see the curses like interface show up in the table and then it crashes. It takes me back to the terminal screen.
so... what should i do ?
i have a via
this is from lsmod
snd_via82xx 29216 1
snd_ac97_codec 78176 1 snd_via82xx
snd_pcm 101252 2 snd_via82xx,snd_ac97_codec
snd_timer 27140 1 snd_pcm
snd_page_alloc 10244 2 snd_via82xx,snd_pcm
gameport 5120 1 snd_via82xx
snd_mpu401_uart 8704 1 snd_via82xx
snd_rawmidi 26144 1 snd_mpu401_uart
snd_seq_device 8972 1 snd_rawmidi
snd 59108 9 snd_via82xx,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mpu401_uart,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_device
when i do a /etc/rc.d/alsa start
everything looks like its ok.
i have tried with and without the default lines in modprobe.conf commented out ( the ones that deal with alsa-oss)
so, i dont know where to go from here
i have udev .68 installed, but i am not sure its being used.
thanks

solved my problem by installing the alsa-oss modules from arch and uncommenting the lines in /etc/modprobe.conf
this allowed me to use the mixer and audacity and everything that i usually need.
cool
