This worked until very recently, so something has changed.
My /etc/vconsole.conf is:
KEYMAP="/etc/keymap.map"
FONT=lat0-14
That KEYMAP does work; it's a clone of the us.map but with a few additions notably enabling the compose key which I use to obtain the German national characters with my US keyboard. (I've been using this since the 1980s!)
With this setup, I get a "thorn" character when using ALT-5 combination whereas I previously saw the Euro character.
On the command line: "$ setfont lat0-14" enables the Euro again. I extended the HOOKS line in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf file to include consolefont and keymap, and ran "mkinitcpio -p linux" but to no avail. (Never had to do this before!)
HOOKS Line:
HOOKS="base udev autodetect modconf block filesystems keyboard fsck consolefont keymap"
I don't know when the change occurred that disabled the Euro as I seldom have to use the Euro character, but could it be from the latest update to grub2?
