oss wont play sound, mixer and test not found

hello,

im currently using oss 4.2_2007-2 instead of -4 because that one has a bug in it. However my sound doenst work. it does not play any sound. i tried to open the mixer using the ossxmix command but i get this:

/dev/mixer: No such file or directory

and for osstest i get the same output.
When i do soundon command i get this:

Previous start of OSS crashed the system
Please resolve the situation and remove file
"/usr/lib/oss/starting". Then start OSS by
running soundon again.

when i then do soundon again i get after a minute or so this:

modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'osscore': Exec format error
Loading the osscore module failed

anyone know how to fix this? thx in advance!

Re: oss wont play sound, mixer and test not found

Try to relink the modules...go to /usr/lib/oss/build and execute install.sh

If you get some errors, paste them here.

If it finishes ok, but it doesn't help, may I ask did you recompile the oss by yourself?

Also there is a nonfree(includes *some* not open source device drivers) version of oss in AUR that is of a newer build (latest 2008) than one in community(2007) so you could try that one instead - https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/oss-nonfree/

Same problem here.

Just reinstall oss 4.2_2007-2
Remove /usr/lib/oss/starting
Run sudo soundon
