I'm trying to configure the touchpad for Dell Inspiron 7720 in Archlinux. I've installed xf86-input-synaptics, but the driver is not being loaded:
$ synclient TouchpadOff=1
Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?
There's an example config in the wiki for ALPS Touchpads , but it seems outdated. How to make it work?

I have a Latitude (also alps) and I managed to make the trackpad work properly with this module and gpointing-device-settings from [community]. synclient works too, if you prefer it. Just install the module, modprobe it (or reboot) and start gpointing-device-settings to configure. You might want to enable the dkms service to recompile the module after kernel updates.
Hope it helps!

Thanks, Foucault. It worked, didn't even have to modpobe/reboot
P.S. in KDE, synaptiks seems to be a working alternative to gpointing-device-settings.
