File-roller iread-only

Hey,
This morning, after installing file-roller to modify my minecraft.jar, I found that I couldn't, as it was read only. To solve the problem I tried: chmod 777 ~/.minecraft/versions/1.6.1/1.6.1.jar, I tried sudo file-roller, and I tried reinstalling file-roller, none of these did anything. Are there alternate programs I could use for this? If not, how do I fix this problem?

Thanks,
tree

Re: File-roller iread-only

It isn't read-only, file-roller (probably) just can't modify a packed zip. Why not just unpack it, make your changes, and then repack it? If you really want to edit it in-place, I believe p7zip (7zFM) can do it.

Re: File-roller iread-only

I think file-roller should be able to do that, too. You might have to change the extension from jar to zip, though.

Re: File-roller iread-only

Yes, I know file-roller is able to modify .jar files, as I have been able to do it on all other distros that I have used: Ubuntu, Gentoo, Funtoo, and Fedora
