Ok so i've tried Rosegarden.. and i can't get any sound..
I'm not new to creating music but I'm very limited in terms of hardware and Arch at the moment..
I want to produce some simple say piano tunes on my laptop without any external sound card, just the internal Intel audio card, is this possible?
And how do i get rosegarden up and running?
Followed the "Pro Audio" guide in the wiki but i can not get any sound of any of the "production" applications listed there, any advice? :/

You are asking two different questions.
The first is a technical one: why is your sound output not working?
To answer this, we need more information.
What sound system are you using?
Are you using an audio server?
What changes have you made?
What do you mean by "not working"?
Do you get any console output?
Have you tried standard debugging for you configuration (e.g. running aplay for testing Alsa)?
Post more information about your setup (including relevant configuration files and application output, in [code] tags).
The second question is subjective: what music production software should I use?
The answer is "whatever suits your needs, try them all and choose".
Change the title of the thread to something like "no audio output with Rosegarden" and focus on the technical issue.
I had never heard of Rosegarden before so I installed it just to see how it compares to LMMS. The first message that I saw was one warning that it does not synthesize sounds itself and requires a synth and an audio server... so my question is, have you installed and configured what it needs to play sounds?
I recommend that you try lmms, which works without other applications.

I'm using ALSA under JACK2.
And by just submitting this noobish question is actually got the sound to work in Hydrogen (with direct ALSA control, no sound under JACK2 tho so the issue is most defently there).
JACK is configured as such (in the GUI):
Rosegarden masters -> system playback
I thought that would be enough but i guess not by the looks of it, I get the feeling i'm deep way over my head on this one because i thought JACK and ALSA would just go hand in hand and everything would be a breeze using qjackctl...
And i do have some synts installed via qsynth, but JACK does a terrible job connecting them and JACK doesn't give me any sound :S
Edit: Gave LMMS a go, works off the bat.
It's a bit, new.. to say the least so i'll have to fiddle around with it for a bit but it looks promesing, and i'll youtube around for quick tips ![]()
