Playing video in VLC or mplayer freezes my laptop, except for the audio, which continues to play.
Possibly related to upgrade.
Any ideas on why it's doing this?

I installed ffmpeg-full instead of ffmpeg, but it still does the same thing. Wtf?

I may be experiencing the same bug... Within the past week, mpv (mpv-git) will play audio correctly but video will either be "frozen" or run at around 1 frame every 5 seconds. I can close the video just fine, and videos still play correctly with mplayer2. Does this sound the same as your bug?
I'm using the open source radeon driver.

It's worse, I'm afraid, drcouzelis. My whole laptop freezes up - the mouse won't move, and pressing ctrl-alt-fkey won't open a console. VLC or mplayer will open, but the actual video doesn't start. The audio plays. Doesn't matter which video it is.
Audacity gave me an error about ffmpeg, so I told it to use a file in /usr/lib/ffmpeg-compat, which fixed the Audacity problem. That's why I thought maybe it was an ffmpeg problem, and installed ffmpeg-full. Didn't change anything, tho. ![]()

Yeah. My mplayer seems better after downgrading ffmpeg from 1.2.1 to 1.0.7 (2.0 breaks API again).
