Radeon on linux 3.10 UVD problem

I have AMD HD7640G and AMD HD7670M in my laptop. When Arch release linux 3.10, the first thing I do is trying the new UVD feature.

But i can not use UVD/vdpau to accelerate a mp4 test video. Use -vo vdpau can not reduce cpu useage.

dmesg | grep -e radeon -e drm

Did you read vdpauinfo’s output…? Hint: Have a closer look at lines below line

I know, but that's the problem i want to solve. UVD 3.0 are suppose to accelerate much more code. I already have the same vdpauinfo output in linux 3.9.x

Re: Radeon on linux 3.10 UVD problem

I think Mesa needs an update as well, which isn't in the repos yet.

You could use the mesa-git packages (There is even an unsigned unsigned repository)
Edit: Some feedback. MPEG and WMV3 produced a black image (Mobility Radeon HD 54XX series), both H-264 samples worked from this list:

Re: Radeon on linux 3.10 UVD problem

Ok, I built and installed mesa-git. My video performance is MUCH better now!

But one question:
In mplayer2 from [community], I get the same performance with -vo xv and -vo vdpau. So the question: Why?

Re: Radeon on linux 3.10 UVD problem

I had to use the "-vc ffh264vdpau" switch. Try that. You can also observe CPU usage of mplayer2, it should reduce a lot when you are using UVD compared to when you use CPU to do video decoding.

Re: Radeon on linux 3.10 UVD problem

Ok, seems like I was wrong. The performance wasn't really better. Only with vo=vdpau and vc=ffmpeg12vdpau,ffwmv3vdpau,ffvc1vdpau,ffh264vdpau,ffodivxvdpau, I get real performance improvements. So thanks for pointing it out!
