Hi there !
Each time I start my KDE session, Kmix popup in the middle of the screen. I always have to close the window before it appear only in the systray. Is there a way to tell it to start in the systray and don't show on screen on startup ?
It's nothing big, but a little bit annoying with time !
Thanks guys !

Do you have saved a session with kmix open and open each time this session?
Try saving a new session with kmix closed (only in systray) when logging out, log back in and voila

KDE is set to use the last session. And in the last session, Kmix is "closed" (in the systray ...). But when I restart KDE, it open in the middle of the screen. So I presume it's not gonna work !

I think there's a kmix option. Try to right click on the kmix icon in the taskbar to get a menu. There's probably a preference option.
I haven't used KDE lately so I can't give you more info.

Hi Snowman !
If I right click on Kmix, all that I have is "Quit", "Show the mix window", "Choose main chanel" and "Mute". If I open Kmix and go to Settings, there is no such option. I really looked everywhere I could think of, and no where I can find a place where it tell me to start it in systray.
I also though to check in the KDE Services that are loaded on startup to see if it is there, but it is not ! And if there is a way to open Kmix with a switch in order to start in just in systray, I could use that method and add it to loaded services on startup ... But I checked the Kmix help and haven't found such a thing !
Thanks !

I just started a kde session and the kmix window didn't popped out.
The only thing I can suggest is:
Right-click on the kmix icon in the taskbar. Then click on:
Show mixer window -> Settings->Configure kmix. On my system, all the boxes are checked. You might want to see if it's the case with your setup.

They are all checked, except the last one "Reset setting on startup" (or something like that ... I use a french version of KDE). I volontary unchecked this one since my volume setting was reset on each startup ... It seem like I will keep closing this window on startup :-P Not really any big deal for sure, but I was wondering if there was any easy way to bypass that.
Thank you very much for your help Snowman ! I really appreciate ! I will continue to check on my side ... if I find out, I will post here !
Thanks !

I did a little test. I completly close Kmix (it wasn't in the systray anymore) and restart my KDE session, and Kmix was there one again in the middle of the screen ... I had a look in the Daemons startup of KDE, and nothing about Kmix ... and in "/etc/profile.d/", nothing there either, as well as in "~/.kde/Autostart/" ... any idea where I could look concerning the apps launched on startup ?
Thanks !

It's probably a configuration problem. Here's a snippet from my ~/.kde/share/config/kmixrc:
AllowDocking=true
Labels=true
MasterMixer=ALSA::Intel_82801DB-ICH4:1
Menubar=true
Orientation=Horizontal
Position=260,248
Size=249,236
Tickmarks=true
TrayVolumeControl=true
Visible=false
startkdeRestore=true

Mixer_Name_Key=Intel 82801DB-ICH4
View.Input.Devs=4
View.Output.Devs=5
View.Switches.Devs=8
View.input.Devs=4
View.output.Devs=5
View.switches.Devs=8
[Notification Messages]
systemtrayquitKMix=false
I think the relevant configs are: Visible, startkdeRestore and systemtrayquitKMix.
You could also create a new user. If that new user doesn't have this problem, you could compare his configs with yours.
