Gnome Tweak tool, dconf does not save/apply settings

Hello bbs,

So I installed arch, installed X, video drivers, gnome, some apps I like, I try to make changes such as changing the icon theme and having the file manager on desktop, etc, they worked. When I rebooted the computer, the settings were back to normal when I installed gnome at first.

I opened gnome-tweak-tool in terminal, when I tried to change the settings here was the output I got:

(gnome-tweak-tool:1868): dconf-WARNING **: failed to commit changes to dconf: GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._g_2dfile_2derror_2dquark.Code17: Cannot open dconf database: invalid gvdb header

Dconf Editor, simply wont let me change the values such as 'org->gnome->shell->overrides->button-layout' it simply reverts back to default values.

Thanks in advance,
ahad12

Your ~/.config/dconf/user may be corrupt. Try removing/renaming it and start over.

Executed:

rm -rf ~/.config/dconf/user

I was able to set my settings just the way I wanted to, now gnome will not load. The xinit/startx output just gives me "JS ERROR'S" That I have no idea about:
Sample Output:

JS ERROR: !!! Execption was: Error: Argument 'text (type utf8) may not be null
JS ERROR: !!! message = '"Argument 'text' (type utf8) may not be null"'
JS ERROR: !!! fileName = '"/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/dataMenu.js"'
JS ERROR: !!! lineNumber = '212'
JS ERROR: !!! stack = 'DateMenuButton<._updateClockAndDate@/usr/share/gnome/shell/js/ui/dateMenu.js:212
wrapper@/usr/share/gjs-1.0/lang.js:213
"'

Which to my understanding when I was trying to show the date in the clock and stuff, fail to load the settings
Any way to fix gnome?
Thanks,
Ahad

There is no need to give up and stay with Cinnamon or the like.

Just follow these steps and you're done. At least this fixed the (very same) problem for me.

I ended up with cinnamon, because that's when gnome stopped working.

That was exactly what I needed. Renamed the database file, rebooted, and gnome-tweak-tool worked again.

It's interesting how it became corrupted. It happened during the middle of a user session. Never touched anything. It just, all of a sudden, decided to revert back to vanilla gnome3 settings.
