Wine doesn't capture the mouse, and messes up resolution

When I start a game on Wine (fullscreen), the screen "goes on" towards the sides, out of the game's "window" which is located on the upper-left side of the screen.

For example, I'm trying to play a 1024*768 game: the game goes fullscreen, yes, but the screen "continues on" to the side: the mouse is not captured.

Also annoying is the fact that after I quit the game, the screen stays that way, like it was a big screen (I use 1920*1080 resolution) zoomed in. I don't know if I explained myself properly.

In winecfg, I've tried tinkering with the graphics options, to no avail. Currently I have the first three options ticked, but not the last one. If I tick the last one (play in a window), the mouse IS captured, but I don't want to play in a window, the game looks tiny.

Thanks.

P.S. I don't recall this happening some versions back. It's been a while since I last used Wine.

Re: Wine doesn't capture the mouse, and messes up resolution

I remember having these issues aswell,
mostly i think it is that wine tries to switch resolution when going fullscreen, but does not switch it back.
can be redone with xorg tools or nvidia-settings when that happens (if you are on nvidia)

Otherwise, try how the "emulate a desktop" option in winecfg works for you, it looks a bit odd, but it does for instance also help me with switching desktops smoothly when running games - though i mostly get them in my native res anyways (1920x1080).

Re: Wine doesn't capture the mouse, and messes up resolution

VanillaFunk: I'd rather chase the problem to the root; I really can't remember for what version(s) it did work and I'd rather not mess around with playonlinux.

PReP: I didn't know that with xorg-tools or nvidia-settings I could restore the resolution back to normal, I'll check on this, as it is annoying to exit and re-enter X. Thanks.

In the OP I said that the "emulate a desktop" option works, but if it can be convenient to play games at your native resolution, it certainly is not to play games at a considerably lower resolution (everything looks tiny), which is my case, actually.

EDIT: Ok, I found out the command for changing the resolution on the fly. It is, for example:

 xrandr -s 1920x1080

Re: Wine doesn't capture the mouse, and messes up resolution

Well, two more things:

1) the capture thing doesn't happen *all* the time. It happens most of the times I open the game, but a few times it works alright. I'm confused...
2) the "xrandr" command I wrote on the above post doesn't work when I get out of the game with a messed up resolution. I get the following message:

Size 1920x1080 not found in available modes

It certainly didn't say so when I tried earlier (before opening the game).

For nvidia, can use nvidia-settings.

Also with nvidia, try compiling wine without xrandr.
