Re: initrd

Unfortunately, no.  If you can incorporate the bootsplash stuff into the new initrd, then you should be able to keep it.  But that's hairy and error-prone, and you'd have to do it everytime you upgraded the kernel.

Perhaps Arch can add official bootsplash support in the future.

I donate a whopping $10 if you do it for 0.8. ;-)

Re: initrd

I'd really appreciate it. Correct me if i'm wrong, but how much harm ccould be to add that patch to the kernel?. i haven't had a problem and 'been patching since 2.6.10i believe, if not earlier. only thing i can think of is the developer/s would be dependent on how quick the patch gets released after every kernel release. I'll try it with the new initrd tho, thx...

I bet that's Canadian dollars too. (~ USD8)

I'll donate £10 (~USD17) if it's offically added. (As we say in England, it's better than a kick in the balls)

Re: initrd

Dont do bootsplash please!

Add fbsplash and initramfs support.

Bootsplash is near unmaintained, whereas fbsplash is actively developed. fbsplash also tends to work better, and we have up to date initscripts capable of working with it, thanks to dibblethewrecker.

Eventually ill have patches for archs initrd setup, so you can use fbsplash and archck and initrd(or as ill be using, initramfs)

Bah, usplash is made to run from within an initramfs - once initramfs is working, usplash should be cake.

Re: initrd

Ugh, not usplash, fbsplash!

It uses initramfs!

Dont throw dibbles awesome work away big_smile

I'm hoping (if I can drag myself away from WoW) to make ArchCK, initramfs (with current initrd setup) compatible, and with fbsplash.

Should make an awesome release when I do.

Re: initrd

I agree fbsplash is the way to go.

For a good comparision between bootsplash and fbsplash see http://dev.gentoo.org/~spock/projects/gensplash/faq.php
