xorg 7.0-rc4 dummy pkg. I'd rather having a group.

It isn't better create a xorg-7.0 group, instead of a dummy package?

With a group we can choose easily what to install and what not, as pacman asks if it should "install the whole content" of a group or let we choose one by one.

The reason it will be a dummy package (to my knowledge) is that the package will contain everything needed.. A group would allow you to choose what to install and thus break xorg as xorg is many packages. What you will be able to do is to install your drivers that you wish.. That is what you choose. (Done after the install)

The reason for the dummy pkg: every application in the repositories expects x-server, which is a complete xorg, holding all libs, fonts, etc. I hope to make some groups soon, but as long as we have packages depending on x-server, we will keep this dummy.

I just installed the xorg packages from testing and I can't shake the feeling that xorg-server should provide x-server instead of the dummy package. Also, I think the font.dir and font.scale files need to be removed from the font packages e.g font-bh-ttf and be generated with a .install file because they seem to be causing a conflict during install.

Allright, in someway i understand the need of this dummy-pkg, but i still hate to have so much packages installed when only few of them are needed.

For example, it shouldn't include every single driver as a dependency. Instead of that, when installing/upgrading , it should give you a message saying the need to install your requiered driver (i guess EVERY Arch user knows which driver he's using)

Re: xorg 7.0-rc4 dummy pkg. I'd rather having a group.

I think the I will change xorg 7.0 a little bit to get rid of the dummy package: xorg-server will provide both xorg and x-server. xorg-server depends on most things, but not all. This won't install each and every lib anymore, but most of them will get installed this way. We need to check up on many packages anyways, so it doesn't really matter when a lib is missing because of this: the package needed a rebuild anyways then. A set of groups will be made to make sure users new to arch can install xorg without much problems.

would not a depency called xorg-driver, which each driver package needs, be enough?  i'm sure it's heading somewhere near there, but thought ild ask.
