"kernel panic - not syncing: cpu context corrupt"

I have just replaced my mobo/CPU and was looking forward to using them under arch. However, I get this error with the default kernel. I did have an arch install with a custom kernel that would boot but, I didn't have the Linux kernel source code so I couldn't compile support for the network card. I tried a reinstall and I got the same error. After that I did some goggling and found I had to use "arch-noscsi" to get the installer working and did so however, it won't boot after the reboot.

CPU: AMD Sempron 64 2600+
Mobo: Biostar K8NHA Grand with the nVidia nForce3 250Gb chip set

Any help will be appreciated.

do you know which version of the default kernel you are using? What install CD did you try, 0.7 or 0.7.1-beta? Its possibly a problem with the new kernel stuff.

Its a rather interesting problem. smile

Re: "kernel panic - not syncing: cpu context corrupt"

The kernel if I recall correctly is 2.6.14-2 and the installer is arch-0.7.1-pre1. I'm doing a new install as I type. I'm going to try to add testing to the pacman.conf file and try to install that kernel in testing. If it doesn't work I'll write down the whole error message.

Sounds good.... thanks for testing the new installer. If you can track down the bug that will be awesome.

I edited when I should have made a new post. My head isn't on right.

Re: "kernel panic - not syncing: cpu context corrupt"

interesting.... so it boots the install CD but not the hard drive.... must be in the kernel.... maybe initrd.... does Archie live CD boot for you?

I think this is probably worthy of a bug report. My guess is its something in the initrd. One of the devs might know what to do with it.

Re: "kernel panic - not syncing: cpu context corrupt"

I haven't tried Archie since I don't have a burner in this system(power supply won't handle it). I will find a system with a burner in the morning. It does boot with the "arch-noscsi" kernel from the install CD. I'll be sure to file a bug report in the morning. Thanks for your help, Dusty.
