Note that you should disable the systemd service if you do it this way. I don't know if it will hurt anything but it is certainly unnecessary and it may confuse things and screw things up.

I am using i3wm.
Now that I look at the config file, I already have a 'exec alsa-tray' there, and it works fine, so I'll just add a 'exec dropboxd' I guess. Will try it later and edit this post with hopefully successful result.
edit: it works. So no systemd stuff, only 'exec dropboxd' inside i3wm config.

Is it possible to (/ how can I) start the service on login with systemd and then create a tray icon when I start X?
(I can start a separate thread for this instead of resurrecting an old one if that's preferable, but it seems like a continuation of the same discussion here)
