just keep moving a server up on the list until you get one that works.

It depends on your location. Theres a script called sortmirrors which is supposed to adjust your mirrors according to speed but it seems to be giving people problems mainly due to a bug in netselect. Be carefull with it and back up your lists, people have complained it wiping them out completely.
I wrote a python version of this a while ago using the average response time from 6 pings to sort the list. You can try that if you like, it wont overwrite any config files. Just append .sorted to your Include lines in /etc/pacman.conf.

hmm, i used the Chemnitz-Server for the last 4 weeks and hat not any problem with them, but now when i do a psyu it prohibits me from connecting to it though i did not even in my dreams touch my pacman.conf
here is the error, seems as if they have a problem, lets wait some days and use other servers instead

It sounds to me like some of Arch's mirrors are either changing their directory structure or stopped mirroring...

MOVE THE SERVERS UP ON THE LIST UNTIL YOU GET NO ERRORS. If you still have trouble try using the wget method by uncommenting it in /etc/pacman.conf.
:: kernel26-2.6.11.10-1: ignoring package upgrade (2.6.14.4-2)
you'll want to upgrade that to at least 2.6.12 if you want to use hwdetect (auto load modules in /etc/rc.conf).

Be calm man ! What kind of method is that to move the server up until I get no errors ? Is there an official repository ? Why can't I use it instead of "playing" with server list ?

because some of the mirrors don't work or are out of date. Thats why you need to use something to sort the mirrors or just experiment by moving them up on the list until you find a good one.

I understand the matter of the outdated mirrors, but what about the official repository, it should work !

the official server is ftp://ftp.archlinux.org right
But as I see, hosteurope is quite fast, too, so i will use that from now on
Thx for this german server!

ftp://schoolbak.dyndns.org/pub/archlinux/
Use that one if you're in Europe. It is synchronized every 2 hours and is hosted on a 100Mbit surfnet line (though we seem to be capped at 3MB/s or so )
Offline
it hase no community mirror, but a gnome one? and archlinux 0.8? shrug.
