Compiz on xfce4

Hi,

I think I have read all the recent posts re:compiz, but it is possible I have missed one or two.

My setup is: running Arch 64bit on virtualbox.

Xfce4 with slim is working as it should.

Have tried several install methods of compiz:  All using the fixed fusion-icon and emerald

1. Using A.R.M. - All elements appear to install ok.
2. Using a combination of A.R.M. and AUR - All elements appear to install ok.
3. Using a download Arch-master-packages done by Japgolly (from another post) - ok.

All give the same results.

1. The config manager does not display correctly -does not show category list etc in left pane, does show title of boxes in right pane only category headings and boxes for marking. Clicking on the space next to the box does however open page with all info ok.

2. No icon in taskbar

3. Clicking on icon in left hand AppsMenu/system does not load icon into taskbar. Loads compiz immediately . Result wallpaper with cursor, no taskbar or windows.

4. If I edit fusion-icon in the home/user/.config/compiz dir and change the line wm = compiz to compizconfig and save.
I then click as per item 3 above and I get the icon in the tray. Right clicking on this gives all the various options to set, eg windows manager etc.

After I set these compiz is imediately loaded with the same result as per item 3 above.

If anyone has any insight what I am doing wrong it would be good to know.

Many thanks. Kevin

Re: Compiz on xfce4

Working fine here with XFCE4.  I have the following installed.

ccsm 0.8.4-3
compiz-bcop 0.8.8-2
compiz-core 0.8.8-5
compiz-fusion-plugins-extra 0.8.8-2
compiz-fusion-plugins-main 0.8.8-2
compizconfig-backend-gconf 0.8.8-2
compizconfig-python 0.8.4-4
emerald 0.8.8-2
emerald-themes 0.6.0-4
fusion-icon 1:0.1-2

I believe you can get the above from AUR.  For fusion-icon, use fusion-icon-fixed 1:0.1-1

I launch the fusion icon with the following desktop file.
/home/~/.config/autostart/Compiz Fusion.desktop

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Version=0.9.4
Type=Application
Name=Compiz Fusion
Comment=Compiz Fusion Icon
Exec=fusion-icon
StartupNotify=false
Terminal=false
Hidden=true

Sometimes after boot up I have to reload the window manager for the window decorations to appear.

See https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/34892 for more information.

I did a system update today and discovered the above problem on my system.  Found a solution in AUR.  Download ccsm from AUR, and after untarring the file, copy the 3 files from the link that applebloom provided in the comments section to the ~/ccsm/ directory - replacing the existing files.  Now compile and install.
