can't chroot in anymore and boot process stopped [SOLVED]

Pacman update failed because I ran out of space at /usr and was forced to distrupt the pacman process with CTRL-C. The failed package was glibc2. I later tried to reinstall glibc2 with pacman but that again failed with space running out. Then immediately after that I was unable to use df or ls - I got just "bus error" - message.

Now I am unable to boot - I can get to the part where mouses are recognized and then boot process halts at synaptics part. No error message is visible and I can press Enter and write things.

Then another thing I tried was to free up space at /usr and retry the boot - still no results.

Finally I tried to use Arch boot cd and later Knoppix to chroot into my partitions - I got "bus error" and could not do that.

I have tried to google for "bus error" but could not find anything for my situation.

you might have hardware failure. Try using a diagonistic utitlity to check, something like Ultimate Boot CD or something.

Re: can't chroot in anymore and boot process stopped [SOLVED]

well, I think at first I'll try to do a clean arch install - luckily I have most partitions separated: /home, /var, /usr are all on different partitions. /home has a nice amount of free space available for backups. Trying to use a diagnostic CD is a bit tricky because the only way I can use this laptop is by using Knoppix.

I am moving ahead - new fresh install was successful and everything seems to work fine again this far.

I got this solved smile Everything seems to be better than before - set up xorg 7.0 and kde again and all things work fine. And this new Xorg is snappy!
