installing xorg and gdm + pacman -Syu = kernel panic

I have installed a fresh copy of Arch today (0.7), and after getting the base system to up and running I've done pacman -Syu, followed by pacman -Sy xorg gdm.
when I reboot, I get a kernel panic. I have looked at the FAQ in this forum, and I did not (at least purpously) migrate from devfs to udev.

here's the error message I get when the system boots up [/dev/discs/disc0/disc7 is my root ( / ) partition]:

"VFS: cannot open root device "discs/disc0/part7" or unknown-block(0,0)
please append a correct "root= " boot option
kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

I'm using grub as my bootloader, and IIRC, pacman -Syu upgraded grub too.
(As you understand, I'm totally new to Arch; used CRUX some time ago)
Will appreciate any help.[/code]

Re: installing xorg and gdm + pacman -Syu = kernel panic

Arch no longer uses /discs/disc0/part7, etc, it now uses udev (/dev/hda2 or whatever). This information can be found all over the forum, in the arch news, etc. It was also displayed when you upgraded the kernel, telling you that you have to make a change.

I'd encourage you to reinstall with the 0.7.1pre iso, it has removed this problem (and others) that you may encounter.
