Need help with my Linksys AE1000 USB WiFi

Getting WiFi working is my very last issue I'm trying to fix. Been trying to get my Cisco Linksys AE1000 wifi dongle to work reliably, but it just doesn't want to cooperate.  It looks like I'm having issues with driver compatibility. Here is my problem: I am able to connect to my access point, however I will randomly lose connection and have to reconnect manually. Also randomly, it seems like the drivers will crash and force me to unplug and replug the device before it will let me reconnect. My second issue is that the wifi will not connect on bootup using systemd/netctl...no errors are given so I don't know how to diagnose that problem. The error I get when the driver crashes is:

rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset 0x308c with error -71.

I tried following this guide on getting the Ralink drivers working, but when I modify the modprobe conf and run 'wifi-menu' I get an error saying that it cannot find "nl80211"

Any other ideas would be excellent. I bought a Cisco Valet connector, which has a different chip, hoping that there might be better compatibility...but it ended up not working at all.

I find Arch to be a little on the annoying side when it comes to first setting up wifi, as there's always 1 little package I forget to install.
