So I can turn that light on and off with asus-kbd-backlight, but the thing is, I can never get it to lit automatically. I had pretty much given up on it, until I had to update my kernel (3.10.3) with a custom patch(*), as I describe here, and I noticed that after I rebooted, the keyboard backlight was on! But of course, that was only true for the *first* reboot after the kernel upgrade: for all the subsequent reboots, no (automatic) keyboard backlight. I tried reproducing the issue:
- reinstalling kernel 3.10.3 and rebooting: didn't work.
- reinstalling kernel 3.9.9 and rebooting: it *worked*, but only for the first reboot after the upgrade (or downgrade, in this case)
- installing kernel 3.10.3 (after having instaled 3.9.9 and rebooted): didn't work.
Does anyone have any idea about what might be going on?
(*) - as far as I can tell, the patch was irrelevant to the keyboard backlight issue.

Can we get a little bit of info about your hardware? I think that the zenbook has been available with a number of different graphics setups, so that might be relevant to the topic... though just a general overview of what you've got inside your machine would proabbly be good... Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge?

I have the UX31A R4002V model, with a Core i5 3317U processor, so Ivy bridge. What other information might you want? Please be specific.

Seriously? I find it a bit ironic that you are insisting on more specificity in my questions that are asking you to be more specific...

I already gave you the specific model. I honestly don't know what further information you might want. A full spec? Here: http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/158 … ifications
If it's something else, please say what. <-- that was the intent of my question for specificity.
