Hi,
I have a Gigabyte U2442 laptop. The Fn keys are mostly working, but when I press the mute key Gnome rapidly toggles between muted / unmuted for a while until it finally gives up. Afterwards the mute key won't work anymore until I reboot. The volume up and volume down keys work as expected.
I also had a look at the mute key using the showkey command. Interestingly when I press the key there is a press event, but I never get a release event. The output of pressing and releasing the mute key just looks like this:
keycode 113 press
If the key would behave like any other key it should be
keycode 113 press
keycode 113 release
Any idea if it is possible to fix this key and where I should look?
Thanks for any hint.
Phil

That is strange. I haven't used gnome since version 2.2X but did you configure the hotkey for mute or the action for mute yourself, or are you using the DE's default?

Have you ruled out the possibility that the key or kbd controller is the problem? Maybe a release signal isn't even being created/received at the hardware level.

Thank you guys. That last article really did the trick. I am a bit ashamed I haven't found it despite searching, but I think I did not really know for what I was looking.

Just if somebody is looking: I have reported the behavior of this laptop model upstream at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67651 and the patch has already been applied and should be part of the next systemd release.
