I'm not sure if this is affecting anyone else, but it seems that the latest nvidia-ck package isn't working for me (Xorg gives me "no screens found").  Is it possible that this version doesn't compile against the current kernel, or is it just a faux-pas on my end (or possibly a repo sync problem)?

Did you try building it yourself to see if it cooperates better?  That is, trying to use the AUR tarball to build a package from teh source (the nvidia-ck package, which I think is also maintained by grasysky)?

@MrCode - Running ck-generic on my webserver and no problems with the new nvidia-ck package.  Tell me, does the official Arch kernel+nvidia 325.15-1 package work for you?

Actually, it appears it was a PEBKAC; I think I had simply forgotten to unload/reload the nvidia module, as rebooting seems to have done the trick for me.  I did test with the stock kernel (which worked), but when rebooting into linux-ck, everything also worked just fine.

Apologies for the trouble.

Heh, I think we've all been there at least once before... glad you figured this out.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Hi everybody,

I currently use linux-ck-nehalem 3.10.5-1 on Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 760  @ 2.80GHz (fam: 06, model: 1e, stepping: 05). While ck kernel 3.9 never had problems I have suspend trouble throughout the whole 3.10.X ck series until now. Most times suspend works like it should but sometimes the machine goes down to a blinking cursor on a black screen and freezes. This happens mostly when having worked for some hours. Only hard reset gets me out. As far as I can tell the stock kernel does not show this behavior, but I am still verifying this on a longer time base.

Does anybody experience this too?

Harvey

Edit: I'm running the stock kernel for 3 days now and had no further freezes. Seems to be ck-related.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Can someone recommend a good web host with the following features:
*Linux host with direct rsync, ssh, and scp access.
*Ability to access webserver logs preferably without going through a web interface.
*Competent and knowledgeable support when needed.
*Affordable (I believe I pay godaddy $9/mo for unlimited disk space/unlimited bandwidth).

[rant]
Godaddy is really lacking in #2 and #3 right now - their "analytic" package has been FUBAR since late July 24 and they seem either unable or unwilling to fix it.  I have taken to calling their tech line once per day to check on the status of my "indecent number."  I get the same verbal hand job every day about how they had a major failure but that my issue is still on the board.  Blah blah.  I'm not paying for this level of inept service.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Not sure if you're interested in VMs, but you can get the base Linode VM for $20 a month.  That comes with 48GB storage and 2 TB of bandwidth each month.  Their support is great.  I was getting DOS'd once and they had it fixed in a couple hours.  I don't have a reason to pay for a VM each month anymore, but if I did I would go back in a heart beat.  They really don't care what you run so long as it's not illegal so running rsync, ssh, and scp isn't a problem.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

I've been using hostmonster for a while - I'm very much a noob when it comes to most server related topics though, so I don't know the details of implementation - but I'm paying around $8-9/month (and I think they have $5/mo for first year deals), the customer service is great, I do have direct ssh and scp access and can access logs from there, I don't use rsync on the server, but it looks like that is available too.

Hi everybody,

today I tried 3.10.6-ck. Still experiencing freezes when trying to suspend while the arch stock kernel works without problems. Does really nobody have an idea what makes this happen? sad

I honestly didn't know this was a ck-specific problem.  I'll have to try sometime with the -ARCH kernel to see if I can confirm this on my system as well, as I have the same problem (suspend only works properly part of the time).

The best place to post issues you feel are related to the ck patch set is to ck's blog since he and one other person represents the upstream group.

Graysky is not telling you that you definitely should go report this on Con Kolivas' blog, but rather that you should rport it if you truly feel that this is specific to the CK patchset.  In his post, MrCode has already indicated that your findings are likely not valid in terms of being a bug of the patchset... so I'm not entirely sure what you are waiting for.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Well, I just tested with -ARCH, and I suspended/resumed a good 3-4 times without issue.  -ck, however, failed after the second attempt (halted at blank screen with cursor). sad

EDIT: Sorry if this is clutter…just wanted to follow up.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

The design of the BFS's queuing can make it an effective bug identifier tool per CK.  I would definetly recommend posting to the ck blog.

I don't use bfq at the moment. I just wanted to use cpu-optimized packages and using your repo is convenient wink

As MrCode seems to have the same issue this is definitely something to report on http://ck-hack.blogspot.com/. But I did not want to waste someones time just to find out later that the culprit is buried in my system setup.

And FWIW - the issue is already reported on ck-blogspot here. I have added a comment there. Maybe MrCode can do the same.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@Harey - OK.  Just wanted to make sure people realize this support thread is not really for the patchset at all since I doubt CK is reading it smile

Also, BFQ is not BFS.  The first is an I/O scheduler while the 2nd is a CPU scheduler.

This is something I did not realize by now. My fault. Thank you for clarification.

So the problem is already reported and we have to wait and see what happens. Until then I am back to the stock kernel. sad

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Thank you so much Graysky.  I installed the linux-ck kernel (piledriver optimized) and tried playing Minetest and it was wonderful.  On the stock Arch kernel I would get around 80-90% cpu usage on all 6 of my cores while playing Minetest.  Now it's only 50% usage on 2 cores.  I was literally shocked because I wasn't expecting that much gain in performance.  I made a complaint in a thread about the radeon driver.  I thought I would have to wait for kernel 3.11 and mesa 9.2 in order to play games but this schedular proved me wrong.

I probably should thank the creator of BFS too.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@PG - Are you using the repo package for linux-ck?  If so you should also be using the nvidia-ck package from the repo too.  I do not provide the r8168-ck package so as long as you have the repo linux-ck-headers pacakge, you can build up whatever you want from the AUR.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

If you are not using the repo and you are building form the AUR, from time to time, upstream releases a patch that is termed a "binary breaker" which will require you to rebuild your modules.  There is not way [that I know of ] to predict this.  I figure it out simply by restarting and seeing if there are errors in dmesg when I modprobe the module(s) in question.

Linux version 3.10.8-1-ck issue!
Adding elevator=bfq to kernel cmdline causes system early hangs.
There was a callstack, but unable to be logged.
