Fullscreen minecraft with catalyst doesn't work

Minecraft is working great for me, with a good fps and everything, but I cannot set it to fullscreen.
First off all I'll just say I'm running Gnome 3 with the propetary catalyst drivers and Oracle java, however this problem persists openJDK. I have dual monitors, one 16:10(1920:1200) and one 5:4(1280:1024).
The problem is there both with a fresh Minecraft, and while running Forge + Optifine, the problem is a little bit different with the modded Minecraft, though.

When I set Minecraft to fullscreen (It does not matter how I do it) the monitors will first turn black, then the primary monitor will return to gnome with minecraft in the same size, but the other monitor goes to sleep. So I'm back at a normal one-monitor setup, which gnome settings confirms.
Minecraft think it's in fullscreen, so the button to switch fullscreen off now reads: "Fullscreen: ON".
This part is the equal if I have modded Minecraft or not.

If I now try again the result varies from a modded and clean minecraft.
If I use a clean minecraft the screen turns black and stays black, but after a little while the screen has some strange white dots, which moves when I move the cursor.
I can recover this if I restart GDM from another tty.
If I do this with the modded minecraft (forge + optifine) the screen just turns black, and then turns back on, with minecraft still in a window still thinking it's in fullscreen.

Does anyone have any ideas for what migth be happening?

Re: Fullscreen minecraft with catalyst doesn't work

Some investigation in Minecrafts source reveals that minecraft has selected a DisplayMode(LWJGL thing) that does not support fullscreen, and when minecraft thinks it's in fullscreen, LWJGL says it's not.

EDIT:
I did some more debugging, and turns out LWJGL reports that the default DisplayMode is fullscreen capable, as well as the 16 others on the list of available mods.
