I apologize if this is in the wrong section, but here goes.
Today I did a full system upgrade (pacman -Syu) and after that Skype started segfaulting every time I launched it, and Steam seems to have started doing the same.I've searched around a bit, but none of the earlier workarounds (downgrade lib32-glib2 etc) seemed to help. If it can help, here is the gdb log for Skype and the relevant snippet from pacman.log.

I found the issue! It seems like the issue was upgrading lib32-glibc 2.17-5 -> 2.18-1. Downgrading lib32-glibc fixed both Steam and Skype!

File a report in the bug tracker so that this can be fixed.
**EDIT**
My help-fu isn't real helpful in my last two posts.
If the glibc update is breaking closed source binaries in Arch, this is going to cause some pain. If these are closed source binaries, then the bug reports will need go upstream.

upgraded catalyst
Another fglrx user.
If you use bt in gdb after the crash, do you see it going through some fglrx library and then a corrupted stack?
We have had this bug here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 0#p1312640

I'm having problems too, with Steam crashing. Latest intel drivers, and downgrading glibc and lib32-glibc to 2.17-5 doesn't have any effect at all.
Is it confirmed to be caused by glibc?

Skype does not segfault on launch here. I can't test much because I never got it working right with my mic and now I can't remember my password. But it certainly launches fine. I'm using lib32-glibc 2.18-1 and skype 4.2.0.11-3 (i.e. stable repos). I have intel drivers.

I'll go ahead and confirm the Skype/Steam breakage. Just updated catalyst, glibc, etc.
Edit: Downgrading lib32-glibc worked.

Everyone, keep in mind that downgrading stuff on a rolling release often will break other things. When one is dealing with glibc, a package that nearly your entire system depends on, it's important to identify problems and report bugs ASAP. One simply cannot hold back this package for long.

Any ideas?
UPD: Looks like catalyst driver is not working, even glxgears throws the same error.

I think there is more than one problem here, but for one there is a bug:

Have you all tried it without Catalyst? And just use the normal Xorg packages including libtxc_dxtn....

For 32 bit users it should be fixed in testing anyway: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/36556

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 9#p1312759 seems to be intel although it works fine with intel here. (Skype does - I don't use steam.)

To all of you using AMD Catalyst, which version of Catalyst are you using? I posted this in the AMD/ATi Bar/Grill
Just to add to this discussion about this package, I am running Catalyst 13.6-3, with the 3.10.7-2 linux-ck-k10 kernel (with the elevator=bfq option) and I am having no problems with 32bit programs.
Claire is fine.
Problems? I have dysgraphia, so clear and concise please.
