OK, to explain what I want to do. My local machine is an Arch installation running pulseaudio usually, and I've got it set up with icecast and jack so that it's working well with idjc.
Now, I also have a VPN running an opensim server on Debian. I'd like to offload the icecast server and jack to the vpn. Th purpose is to make use of the greater bandwidth, and not lose audio on jack unaware applications on my local machine when running IDJC, so is it possible to connect to a jack server on the VPN from my local machine without having to run jack locally (I know net jack will do it, but that still requires running jackd locally).
If so, are there any good instructions out there (I can't find any).
TIA

That is a valud reason.

You should run jack on the hardware and then connect pulseaudio to jack and not let it use the hardware directly.

I don't think so. THe jack client does not include a network interface, you have to connect two servers.

Thank you. I suspected that it wouldn't be possible, but if you don't ask you don't learn.
For now I've connected pulse to jack to retain local audio. Tonight I'll probably look at moving icecast to the vpn and using net jack.

Just an update to let you know that I got the remote icecast and jack servers working with netjack from my local machine.
I still have an issue with lousy playback through jack if duplex is enabled locally, but for now I can live with that.
Marking as solved (kind of).
