Mesa 9.2.0 Problems

Hello all,
After mesa 9.2.0rc1 made its way into [testing], I gave it a go by updating all needed packages for both x64 and x86 (via multilib, for wine).
First attempt worked like a charm - played a video for a few seconds in mpv using UVD (hwdec=vdpau, vo=vdpau) without any problem.
Since then, everything went downhill - mpv can't play anymore, it will just lock (and take the whole system with it) once it's done with the initialization phase (filter selection etc.).
Moreover, wine will also cause the same behavior when the video card is put under a bit of stress (gaming) - lock within a minute or so of launch.
Is there any way of "resetting" mesa, to rule out any 9.1.x-9.2 configuration errors?
On a side note, 9.1.6 worked just fine (no UVD, obviously) with Wine.
Thanks, Adam.

* EDIT *
Forgot to mention, I have a Mobility Radeon 4570HD.

[adamdagan@admdgn ~]$ glxinfo | grep ^OpenGL | egrep 'version|renderer'
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD RV710
OpenGL core profile version string: 3.1 (Core Profile) Mesa 9.2.0-rc1
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 1.40
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 9.2.0-rc1
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30

* EDIT 2 *
Well, now it just crashes for no apparent reason, back to 9.1.6.
Hopefully 9.2.0 will behave better.

* EDIT 3 *
Having said the above, should someone have an idea of things to test, I'll be happy to try 9.2.0rc1 again.

* EDIT 4 *
9.2.0rc2 made no difference, as nonfunctional as rc1

Re: Mesa 9.2.0 Problems

I'm surprised no one answered this. While I can't help you directly as I don't run [testing] anymore, I do have a question for you. Do you use [testing] or did you just pick out the packages that you wanted?

How is this Solved?!  If you have found a way to get this working correctly, you need to post your findings and/or fixes. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fo … way_Street

Re: Mesa 9.2.0 Problems

I stand corrected, WonderWoofy, tag removed.
It isn't, of course.
For the time being 9.2.0rc1 is too unstable on my machine to run full time, but obviously, should someone have an idea of what I should test, I'll be happy to try it again.
skottish, no, full [testing].

I was hoping that there was something else that you could install to make it work, but I guess not. Bummer.

Re: Mesa 9.2.0 Problems

I'd like to add that I've been testing this as well on my Acer Aspire One, which I think is an APU system with an HD 6000 series card in it. In any case, I haven't had any trouble getting UVD to work within SMplayer, but trying to use it in XBMC is a mixed bag. More often than not, XBMC hangs when I try to play anything with VDPAU enabled. Given that SMplayer works without issue, I'm inclined to believe this is a problem with XBMC, not necessarily the new mesa code. Unfortunately, the XBMC crash logs don't really offer any kind of insight on why the lock-up occurs.

I would be happy to post a crash log when I get home from work for anyone interested. Or, if there's some other log that might be more helpful, please let me know and I will take a look.

EDIT: I fixed (or worked around) this issue in XBMC by disabling the "Enable VAAPI acceleration" setting. You can find it under Settings > Video > Playback.

Thanks! That partly fixed the XBMC issues for me, too! Playing a x265 video with sometimes over 30MBit/s with 10% CPU load... Just great!

But when I try to watch HDTV with XVDR, XBMC still freezes. Could you possibly check if HDTV works for you?

Edit:
Well, after reboot, I can actually play one file. When I stop it and select an other one, XBMC freezes again. Could you try or confirm this? If not, I will open an other thread for that.

I don't have a TV tuner in my computer, so I can't help you there. As for playing more than one file, I haven't had any issues with that; everything works as expected after turning off VAAPI acceleration. I would start a new thread.

Re: Mesa 9.2.0 Problems

OK, after some trial and error I successfully managed to build a few revisions dealing with UVD and bottom line is non of it work.
Seems like an upstream problem completely (already reported - https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68468).
As far as the other stuff (Google Maps hang etc.), still a WIP on my end with the whole bisecting thing, might take a bit of time.
Also, now that 9.2.0 is out of [testing] and problems are still here, can a moderator please take this thread to a more appropriate forum?

You can use the report button to request a thead move: it removes the element of chance that a mod will stumble on your post asking for such a thing...

Re: Mesa 9.2.0 Problems

I use UVD for flash playback with mesa 9.2.0 and I get lockups after watching a video for about minute.  I use a hd 5870 with a x6 1100t. I hope mesa 9.2.1 gets released soon with a bug fix.

Re: Mesa 9.2.0 Problems

Is the problem still present with mesa 9.2.1 in [testing]?

Re: Mesa 9.2.0 Problems

Hi net147,
I had plans of setting up a testing partition with a clean minimal installation for the purpose of properly bisecting mesa, but unfortunately got a bit occupied with real life.
The best I could do is trying 9.2.1, and at least as far as UVD goes - still the same problem, it just locks the system after a few seconds.
