[Possibly Solved?] Xorg Segfault -- Intel Drivers and KDE

Hey everyone!  I've recently been getting segmentation faults with Xorg.  I haven't been able to determine a pattern with the segmentation faults...I haven't noticed any pattern, it just seems to crash sometimes and bounce me back to log on.

Now I'm not new to linux, but Xorg is still kind of a mystery to me.  I was hoping someone here could help me out and tell me what I should do next:

Here's the relevant part of my Xorg.conf

lspci | grep VGA returns:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Thames XT [Radeon HD 7670M]

and "pacman -Ss intel | grep installed" comes back with:

extra/intel-dri 9.1.6-1 [installed]
extra/libva-intel-driver 1.2.0-1 [installed]
extra/xf86-video-intel 2.21.14-2 (xorg-drivers xorg) [installed]
multilib/lib32-intel-dri 9.1.6-1 [installed]

I'm also running KDE and KDM, although I have gnome installed on this laptop as well (GTK based applications don't seem to play nicely with the touchscreen on my laptop).

Re: [Possibly Solved?] Xorg Segfault -- Intel Drivers and KDE

Instead of 'pacman -Ss intel | grep installed' use 'pacman -Qqs intel'.

I see you're using UXA, try switching to SNA, although maybe it's the AMD card that's at fault here.

Re: [Possibly Solved?] Xorg Segfault -- Intel Drivers and KDE

Hey, thanks for the help!

Switching to SNA looks promising.  While looking how to do that, I also found this:  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … tel_driver, so possibly things under this section will help (although turning off GPU acceleration is less than ideal, it's still better then crashing while doing something important).

If this switch appears stable, I'll mark this thread as "possibly solved" and change to "solved" state if I don't get a crash after a while (since I can't yet reproduce this on demand).

Thanks!

Re: [Possibly Solved?] Xorg Segfault -- Intel Drivers and KDE

Turning off acceleration worked for my ancient (read: not very well supported) Intel GPU, I'm not sure if it helps with the newer hardware.

Re: [Possibly Solved?] Xorg Segfault -- Intel Drivers and KDE

No , this is far from being solved, either SNA or UXA keep failing , X starts 1 in 2 or less than that which is driving me crazy combined with https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=168177 KERNEL F||SDUQ#*($HDUSAD PANCAKE
BTW has nothing to do with KDE this is purely a problem introduced with the new drivers, as for the DE / WM has nothing to do with this. Openbox here.

Interesting... same problem for me there with Nvidia card/nouveau driver and compiz
