Hello all,
I made a fresh installation on a Thinkpad T420s and wonder about power management.
If I press the powerbutton, machine goes sleeping. But where that behaviour is configured?
1 ) /etc/systemd/logind.conf
all entires are commented out (changig does not change behaviour)
2) acpid ... /etc/acpi
not installed, does not exist
3) /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/70-power-switch.rules
ACTION=="remove", GOTO="power_switch_end"
SUBSYSTEM=="input", KERNEL=="event*", SUBSYSTEMS=="acpi", TAG+="power-switch"
SUBSYSTEM=="input", KERNEL=="event*", KERNELS=="thinkpad_acpi", TAG+="power-switch"
LABEL="power_switch_end"
4) /etc/pm/power.d/
...empty
mmmmh, don't think it is...
But where is it configured?

logind has a default configuration, check the man pages for details.

systemd handles these events by default and those lines in logind.conf are the default actions systemd takes for those events. You can uncomment them and tell systemd to do something else if you want. Systemd doesn't handle battery events though - you could use acpid for that.

Changes within logind do not change behaviour (Power Button)
I guess GNOME 3 power preferences are my friends finally...

What do you change it to? Did you log out and back in again after making the change?

I enabled
HandlePowerKey=poweroff
, made a reboot, but the button continued suspending the ThinkPad. I can live with it. It's more interessting something to know how the things work.

If you are using Gnome, you can use gnome-tweak-tool to edit the action of the power button.
Edit: typo

Hi there
I have just done an install on a T420 and after a bit of research used this https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/TLP
Lots of info for controlling power use on Thinkpads.
Works for me.
Cheers
