GTX 650Ti, wrong resolution... nothing about solve it

Guys... thinking in better performance, and others, like 3D stereo I`ve owned this GPU

but, I just can`t configure it rightly....

I`ve read arch wiki, made ~all routines~ twice (have reinstalled arch) but don`t works... I`m seeing about 640x480 and nothing I do solves it

I`ve installed nvidia-304xx driver... kdm ups normally but with a poor visual (what a poor)

move mouse rights go to ~another screen~. Nvidia seetings must be run as root, but.. nothing happens. Editing Xorg.conf, also nothing happens

running dmesg, I get this

[   16.189151] input: HDA NVidia HDMI/DP,pcm=9 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/0000:01:00.1/sound/card0/input6

[   18.916015] NVRM: drivers including, but not limited to, vesafb, may result in

I`ve followed all the nvidia ~arch`s wiki~ but don`t solved yet.....

You need nvidia, not nvidia-304xx. Have you tried it?

Re: GTX 650Ti, wrong resolution... nothing about solve it

For GTX 650T (or any newer) card you should be using the latest nvidia drivers, provided by nvidia package. nvidia-304xx is for older hardware.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA#Installing

Post the output of dmesg when using nvidia (not nvidia-304xx).
When pasting configs, code or command output, please use [ code ] tags, not [ quote ] tags https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

like this

It makes the code more readable and - in case of longer listings - more convenient to scroll through.

You should also remove nvidia-304xx-utils.

Re: GTX 650Ti, wrong resolution... nothing about solve it

news.....

with Xorg.conf I`ve 640x480. If I force it, the image remains compressed in a block, at left..... terrible

without Xorg.conf I get up to 1024x768. not more than this

splash of nvidia appears. I get fading effect during logging in KDE. appears driver ok.

Re: GTX 650Ti, wrong resolution... nothing about solve it

seems like Xorg.conf like the problem

with it, I can use folding at home, but.... 640x480

Without, no folding, but 1024x768. But, even forcing in Xorg.conf, nothing more than 640x480. and without 1024x768

I did rdblacklist=nouveau on grub... manual blacklisting on modules.load.d, but nothing

at this time using 319 beta driver with "--add-this-kernel" and "-Z" options that blacklists too nouveau

Have you added to the kernel command-line (via your bootloader - grub, syslinux, lilo, whatever you're using):

vga=normal

Can check the kernel command-line with:

cat /proc/cmdline

no. I really don't know it's necessary... wiki nothing says about it

cat /proc/cmdline

Re: GTX 650Ti, wrong resolution... nothing about solve it

ilkyest, keep in mind the arch wiki is made/maintained by users, so can have errors or omissions.

the kernel states NVRM is missing a text-mode VGA console, adding something like vga=normal to the command line is by far the simplest way to make sure there IS a text-mode vga console available.

Also adding vga=something will disable modesetting completely , so you can remove the nomodeset.

please try it, if succesfull you can add that info to the wiki.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: GTX 650Ti, wrong resolution... nothing about solve it

i don't think vga console is the root of the issue; still is a good thing to have a textmode console or you'll get black vts after a while.

That said, you should post full xorg log output rather than kernel messages.

Lone_Wolf. I know that are users the maintaneres of wiki, and JUST BECAUSE IT I'm on arch about 3 years. But this issues I'm having just now with my new GPU.

I don't know if it helps, but

Start of NVIDIA bug report log file. Please include this file, along
with a detailed description of your problem, when reporting a graphics
driver bug via the NVIDIA Linux forum (see devtalk.nvidia.com)

about this, I tryed kubuntu and I could see until "one step down" from 1440x900, but not 1440x900.

another thing on nvidia developer's forum, the moderator say

It sounds like your monitor is broken. You can try to work around it by setting the IgnoreEDIDChecksum option in the Device section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but please be aware that depending on how broken the EDID really is, this can cause the driver to output a signal that the monitor doesn't support and in the (extremely unlikely) worst case, damage the monitor hardware.

It sounds strange, because this monitor works well on windows, just in linux I have this trouble

About EDIDChecksum I don't know if it's possible do with "repository" driver

Another thing that sounds strange. By wiki, my gpu, GTX 650Ti, owns to 6 series, and by wiki, the correct driver is "nvidia-304xx". Downloading it from Nvidia, downs 319.xx.

I'm trying with the nvidia-304xx, but I need a reboot, that I didn't yet. But, at this moment, still on 1024x768

Re: GTX 650Ti, wrong resolution... nothing about solve it

Hmm Zsh has a completiton for this, but it should look like this:

xrandr --output <your defice for example DVI-I-1 or VGA1> ---mode 1440x900

I'll try in a while, but I need go home

If this command works, where do I put it to, at every boot, it starts?

and, more one thing

The right in this case is the nvidia driver, nvidia-304xx? my GPU is a GTX 650Ti. both of them shows the same issue.... but, with, just, the distro driver, I can't start folding at home with GPU. If I did the distro driver, and "on it" install the 319 driver, anything but resolution, is ok.

Solved

I've added

Option "IgnoreEDIDChecksum" "DVI-I-0"

Re: GTX 650Ti, wrong resolution... nothing about solve it

Read: probably your monitor is sending a corrupted edid or a wrong checksum.
That's why i asked you to post xorg logs...

Re: GTX 650Ti, wrong resolution... nothing about solve it

I don't think about it koko... On windows it works a hell.... so much. The last nvidia driver works until 1600x1200, but every resolution higher than 900 pixels on vertical (16:9 format) shows "not recomended", but, buttons AUTO make it desappear

But, this monitor has more than six years old, so I think that, not corrupted/wrong EDID, but a "very old style" of, a legacy format, maybe, that linux  can't recognize.

but, All working now

Re: GTX 650Ti, wrong resolution... nothing about solve it

Does "IOMMU=soft" kernel parameter affects this anyway?

I should use IOMMU on grub's kernel line 'cause my pci sata card don't works without it, as seen here
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 6#p1396646

But, at now, IgnoreEDIDChecksum isn't working. Still on bad 640x480
