Qjackctl's Patchbay's Exclusive and Forward options don't do anything

Forgive me if I'm just completely misinformed, as it's impossible to find much on Google once I get as specific as Qjackctl's patchbay. In fact, this page is literally the only thing I can find.

I want to do two things: first, I want to disable any application from automatically connecting to my system's playback_1, playback_2, capture_1, and capture_2, because pretty much every app automatically connects to the playbacks and PulseAudio's JACK source insists on connecting to the captures. But I want to retain the ability to set up automatic connections in the Patchbay, such as having Guitarix connect to captures 1 and 2 whenever it launches. The way the page above described the Exclusive option in the Patchbay makes it sound like exactly what I need for this, but the option doesn't seem to affect anything whatsoever, no matter how much I deactivate and reactivate the Patchbay with it in use.

The second thing I want to do is what I noticed the page said the Forward option can do. I have 3 sets of left-right channels for all my speakers, so it would be nice to have one forward itself to the other two so that I can just connect each application to one in the Patchbay. Sadly, this option, again, doesn't seem to affect anything whatsoever. If I try it, the apps will only connect to one set of left-right channels, and the sound does not also come out of any other speakers.
