HDMI audio crackling/popping when volume is loud

I've been having this problem since i switched from analog audio to HDMI. When the volume is increased to somewhat loud levels I get crackling/popping. Volume is being controlled by my pioneer sc-65 receiver. The crackling/popping happens in flash video as well as XBMC, those are all I use. I'm not even sure where to start looking for the cause? This has been happening for months and I keep my system up to date. No pulseaudio installed just alsa and KDE. Thanks!

Re: HDMI audio crackling/popping when volume is loud

IIRC I had similar problems with HDMI. And I that forced me to install pulseaudio. But I don't know if that solved that problems. Anyway long story short, after trying to get HDMI to work I just went back to SPDIF.

(I really doubt this post will help you at all, but maybe brebs alsa-config will help you)
