Lenovo Ideapad Y510p backlight issues, ideapad and intel_backlight

I would like to be able to use my keyboards fn+left/right to control backlight, but when pressed it merely pops up the brightness change popup on the desktop and does nothing.

I have been fighting with this for a few days, I have tried a whole bunch, and the closest I have to fully working is by including acpi_osi="Linux" and acpi_backlight=vendor in my grub config

This leads to /sys/class/backlight/{ideapad,intel_backlight} existing, but intel_backlight does nothing.

If I manually echo 1-5372 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness, it works fine.

ideapad/brightness does nothing however, no dmesg, nothing in any log files I can find.

Is there a config way for me to set the laptop to use intel_backlight and ignore the existance of the ideapad backlight option, or how should I go about working on this?

Have you tried

acpi_osi="!Windows 2012"

Does this kernel bug sound similar to what you are experiencing?
