Xterm - defining geometry in Xdefaults

So I've looked at the man page, and I"m fairly sure the entry should be like this:

xterm*geometry: 79x43+0+0

...but that doesn't work.

I've also tried the following:

xterm*geometry: 79x43
xterm*vt100.geometry: 79x43
xterm*vt100.geometry: 79x43+0+0
xterm*vt100*geometry: 79x43
xterm*vt100*geometry: 79x43+0+0

...but still no joy.

Anyone care to enlighten me?

According to the xterm(1) man page, you need to use the XTerm.Geometry class (yes, I do believe it is case sensitive...)

XTerm.Geometry: 79x43+0+0

Have you merged the .Xresources file to the current resource database?

$ xrdb -merge ~/.Xdefaults

I you sure that the file is executable?

chmod +x .Xdefaults

Should work.

Hehe, I've got LOADS of configuration stuff in Xdefaults for other apps, and that's all fine... so yes it's executable

(sorry, ignore the belittling nature of that comment )
