So I've looked at the man page, and I"m fairly sure the entry should be like this:
xterm*geometry: 79x43+0+0...but that doesn't work.
I've also tried the following:
xterm*geometry: 79x43
xterm*vt100.geometry: 79x43
xterm*vt100.geometry: 79x43+0+0
xterm*vt100*geometry: 79x43
xterm*vt100*geometry: 79x43+0+0...but still no joy.
Anyone care to enlighten me?

According to the xterm(1) man page, you need to use the XTerm.Geometry class (yes, I do believe it is case sensitive...)
XTerm.Geometry: 79x43+0+0~Peter~

It still didn't work... this is crazy!

Have you merged the .Xresources file to the current resource database?
$ xrdb -merge ~/.Xdefaults~Peter~

Tried that, still no joy :S

I you sure that the file is executable?
chmod +x .XdefaultsShould work.
Arch - It's something refreshing

Hehe, I've got LOADS of configuration stuff in Xdefaults for other apps, and that's all fine... so yes it's executable
(sorry, ignore the belittling nature of that comment
)
